HAMPTON, Va — Crews spent Sunday morning demolishing a public housing building in Hampton.
The Hampton Redevelopment and Housing Authority imploded the Lincoln Park Tower at 8 in the morning on Sunday. In a matter of seconds, the high-rise was reduced to a pile of rubble.
The 46-year-old complex had been closed since 2014. The Housing Authority decided to demolish the building after an engineering study found the building was in poor condition. People began moving out and plans were developed for the site’s future.
Now, the Housing Authority will begin construction on a new complex on the site. The building is expected to be finished in 2019.
