HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — Henrico Police Officer Neil Griffin passed away Tuesday after a battle with cancer.

“It is with great sadness that we inform you of Henrico County Police Division Officer Neil G. Griffin’s untimely death,” the Henrico Police Department posted on Facebook. “He will be truly missed not only by his family, police family, and friends, but also by all the faculty and students whose lives he touched during the many years he served as the School Resource Officer at Byrd Middle School.”

There is a movement underway to rename Byrd Middle School after Officer Griffin.

“Officer Griffin was a role model for his students and colleagues; a dedicated, hard worker; and a friend to everyone he met,” the police post continued. “We all feel honored to have known Neil and to have had the privilege of working with him. We send our most sincere condolences to his family and all who loved him.”
