COLLEGE PARK, Ga. -- A Georgia mom was outraged after she says her 4-year-old son was sent home from school in his underwear. The incident happened at Feldwood Elementary School in College Park, Georgia.

Janet Burgo said her son is traumatized by what happened, saying he was humiliated in front of the school.

“They put him half-naked, in my opinion, on the bus in the cold,” she said. It’s unacceptable to put my child on a bus in his underwear in 40 degree weather.”

Burgo said her son was sad and said, “My teacher put me on the bus in my underwear.”

The Pre-K student had an accident at the end of the school day, but Burgo says instead of the teacher finding him something else to wear, they put him on the bus in his underwear with a sweatshirt tied around his waist to conceal his underpants.

His mother said this isn’t the first time her son has had an accident at school, and admits she didn’t replace his extra pair of pants at the school after his last accident.

But she wants to know why the teacher didn’t call her.

The teacher in question resigned after the Fulton County school system launched an investigation into the incident.

The school system sent WSB-TV a statement that read:

“Our students' care and well-being is paramount, and this situation should not have happened. The teacher has resigned and we are continuing our investigation into how the situation occurred."

Burgo said she believes the teacher should have been terminated, instead of being allowed to resign. She said she wants everyone involved in the mistake held accountable.

“Teachers are mandated reporters, how do you walk by a school of teachers and get on a bus in your underwear in 40 degree weather?”
