RICHMOND, Va. — A storm system will bring light precipitation Thursday evening, but the air will be very dry, causing any snow or rain to initially evaporate before it reaches the ground. The air will moisten up enough for the precipitation to reach the ground by mid to late evening.
Temperatures for this storm will be in the low to mid 30s, keeping surface temperatures above freezing at the onset of the precipitation. Some sleet or rain may mix in across the metro with areas far south and southeast changing over to all rain.
The main period of steadier snowfall looks to be between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. Due to ground temperatures, it will take a little while for the snow to begin to stick. Once the snow chills the ground enough, we will begin to see accumulation on grassy surfaces and elevated surfaces. After a longer period of snow, untreated roads will begin to get slippery and start to see some accumulation as well. The temperatures for this event will keep this a wet, slushy snow.
