Former Deep Run student wanted for murdering dad

PHOENIX, Arizona -- A 24-year-old man, with ties to Glen Allen, is wanted for murdering his father. Wynton Holston Elrod is the subject of a police manhunt in Phoenix, Arizona. Elrod, police said, is wanted for murdering his father Craig Elrod. Craig Elrod's body was found in his Phoenix home Sunday. Wynton Elrod's brother found their 62-year-old father's body, police said.

The incident happened over the weekend near 24th Street and Thomas Road.

"When [the brother] arrived he discovered his brother, Wynton Elrod was at the residence which was unusual, as he had been evicted from the home in the proceeding weeks for drug abuse," a Phoenix Police spokesman said. "Wynton lied about his father’s whereabouts when confronted by his brother and he appeared to have been driving the father’s Fiat. The caller began to question his brother and look for their father. Meanwhile, Wynton fled the scene in the listed orange Fiat and the father’s body was located in a bathroom of the home. The victim was obvious deceased and appears to have been for several days. The victim had sustained trauma to the upper body, however the cause of death with be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office."

Former Deep Run High School students confirmed Elrod attended the West End high school. He would have graduated in 2010, but it was unclear whether he graduated from Deep Run or another Virginia high school.

Virginia court records revealed Elrod had a lengthy criminal record in Henrico County with convictions that included receiving stolen goods, drug possession drug distribution and grand larceny.

"Wynton is a known heroin addict and is considered armed and dangerous," a Phoenix Police spokesman said.

Wynton Holston Elrod, was described as a 5’11”, 150 pound white male with brown hair and brown eyes. Elrod has a tattoo of a peace sign with soldiers on his right calf, police said. The vehicle he was last seen driving was described as a 2015 Orange Fiat 500 with an Arizona plate: BMN2693.
