HOPEWELL, Va. — A man suffered a non-life threatening injury when he was shot in the leg after he was surrounded by a group of people in Hopewell Sunday evening. The shooting was reported at about 6:30 p.m., near the intersection of N. 11th Avenue and Poythress Street.

“A victim reported that he came upon a fight and tried to intervene. The participants in the fight then left the area and then returned with additional people in a red Chrysler van,” Hopewell Police spokesman Lt. Damon Stoker said. “They surrounded the victim, and then one of the males shot the victim in the leg. All then fled in the red Chrysler van.”

Police could not provide information about the suspects, other than they were black males in their late teens to early 20’s. The van was described as a red Chrysler van with faded paint.

Anyone with information about the fight, or the shooting was asked to call the Hopewell Police Department at 804-541-2222 or Hopewell/Prince George Crime Solvers at 804-541-2202.
