HANOVER COUNTY, Va. — Michael Carr Teegarden, who once worked as an assistant principal in both Hanover and Richmond County Schools, was sentenced to 20 years in prison after child pornography was found on his home computer. Most of Teegarden’s prison sentence was suspended, so the 52-year-old Hanover man received four years of active prison time.

Teegarden was arrested after law enforcement searched his Mechanicsville home in October.

“During the search, Teegarden admitted using the Internet to search for and download child pornography. He also admitted that child pornography would be found on his computers,” a spokesman for Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring said. “Investigators seized several electronic devices from Teegarden’s residence… The forensic examination corroborated the Teegarden’s admissions, revealing hundreds of images of child pornography on his electronic devices.”

At the time of his arrest, Teegarden served as the Virginia chairman for the Martin O’Malley presidential campaign. The campaign severed all ties with Teegarden following his arrest.

Deputies and members of the Southern Virginia Crimes Against Children task force searched Teegarden’s Morning Dew Lane home after getting a tip that a computer inside was being used for the online trading of digital child pornography.
