Family dog rescued, 5 cats killed in Henrico house fire

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. – A family of four has been displaced and a dog rescued after a house fire ignited in the 100 block of North Rose Ave off of East Nine Mile Road. A neighbor noticed the fire and called 911. First arriving units made it on scene within four minutes and reported smoke from the first floor and the roof of a single story residence.

Crews marked it a working fire and began an interior fire attack to knock the fire down.

The fire was marked under control at 5:03 p.m., just about 30 minutes later. Fire crews were able to rescue a dog trapped inside in the fire and used a pet oxygen masks to resuscitate it.

The dog was transported by Animal Protection Officers to a veterinary hospital, to be treated for visible burns.

No one was home at the time that the fire occurred. There was heavy fire and smoke damage done to the house.

Four engine companies, two specialty service units, one fire medic unit, and three command staff units responded to the fire.

The exact cause and area of origin of the fire is under investigation at this time.

No injuries were reported from the fire, as no one was home at the time. A family of four, two adults and two children will be displaced.
