New Mexico authorities were called to a car rental facility after a “credible explosive device” was discovered on a vehicle at the Albuquerque International Sunport airport.

The device was under a vehicle returned to the facility Sunday, said officer Simon Drobik of the Albuquerque Police Department.

The airport remained open and no flights were affected because it is not directly attached to the airport, according to police.

Employees at the rental facility discovered the device after the car was put on a lift to be inspected. They immediately notified police.

The bomb squad deemed the device “credible,” Drobik said. Authorities did not release details on the device or who rented the car.

Normal operations resumed at the car rental facility after the device was rendered safe.

The FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating.
