Chesterfield teacher’s aide arrested for pinching exceptional ed student

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY Va. -- A Chesterfield teacher's aide was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault after she pinched a 12-year-old exceptional education student's arm at at Robious Middle School last week. The pinch caused bruising, police said.

"Police were notified of the incident on Friday, Feb. 5, after video of the assault was discovered on another faculty member’s cell phone. The assault was captured on video by another exceptional education student, who happened to be handling the phone at the time of the incident," a Chesterfield Police spokeswoman said.

Celina Deas-Durant, 48, of Poe Street in Richmond, was arrested without incident on Friday. She started working with Chesterfield Schools in 2014.

"This is a very serious charge and the employee has been removed from the school," Chesterfield County Schools spokesman Shawn Smith said. "The employee will not return to the school pending the disposition of the charges and the administrative process."
