RICHMOND, Va — The former electronics store Circuit City could be making a comeback very soon.

Consumer electronics publication Twice reports two New York businesses bought the name and trademarks for Circuit City in October. They were previously owned by Systemax, which also owns technology website TigerDirect.

The plans include retail stores, a website, and even private-label products, all under the same Circuit City name.

The first store is expected to open in Dallas, Texas in June. The new CircuitCity.com will also launch then.

Circuit City was based in Richmond until it closed its doors in the midst of the economic recession. It filed for bankruptcy protection in 2008. At its peak, Circuit City had 1,520 stores in the U.S. and Canada, and employed 46,000 people.
