PETERSBURG, Va. -- Wendy's is investigating a possible data breach at some of its fast-food restaurants.

News of the problem comes as three people reach out to WTVR CBS 6 saying they've had problems after they used their debit cards at local Wendy's.

A Petersburg woman said she was surprised while she was eating Thanksgiving dinner to receive an alert from her bank that her card number was being used in New York City. That purchase was for more than $400.

And she said that she had used her card a few days before at a Petersburg Wendy's.

Additionally, a Dinwiddie County man said he discovered his card number being used in New York City just before Christmas after he had also recently bought a meal at a local Wendy's.

Michelle Hastings Simon, Senior VP of Marketing for Eastern Virginia Bank, said setting up alert messages is a quick way to learn if someone is using your information and allows you to quickly call your bank to cancel your card and report the security breach.

Simon also said everyone should frequently check their bank accounts and at least once a year to check your credit reports.
