PETERSBURG, Va. — Petersburg Area Transit is starting a new daily route to accommodate Petersburg workers to the Amazon distribution center in Dinwiddie County. The particular warehouse is located at 5000 Commerce Way in North Dinwiddie.

The new expansion begins Wednesday, January 20. The routes will start at 5.15 a.m. and 6.15 a.m. then arrive at the Dinwiddie warehouse 15 minutes later. The route will leave the Amazon warehouse at 3.15 p.m and 5.15 p.m. to return Petersburg.

The transit company said starting in 2014; they began a three-year strategic plan to provide the community with access to more jobs, healthcare and education.

“All too often jobs are not accessible without a car. As the only designated public transportation provider for this region, it is our responsibility to address this gap.” said Dironna Moore Belton, general manager of PAT.

PAT also said they are actively working with Chesterfield County to provide transportation to the Chester Amazon distribution center, located at 1901 Meadowville Technology Pkwy.

In a press release, PAT said financial assistance for these initiatives has come from the City of Petersburg, the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation, Federal Transit Administration and many other federal partners.
