RICHMOND,Va. — A 92-year-old man whose request to see his wife and hold hands with her in the hospital days before their 71st wedding anniversary went viral has passed away.
Family members confirmed that John Mullins, affectionately known as “Popaw,” died Saturday. Mullins’ story spread rapidly on social media when he was photographed holding hands with his 90-year-old wife, Bernice, as they both lay in hospital beds. Bernice had recently been admitted to the hospital where John was being treated. 
The family set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to help pay for John’s funeral and Bernice’s medical care.
