CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — The Beatles sang money can’t buy love, but for one Chesterfield husband, love made him a lot of money. When Norma Hines realized the Powerball ticket she bought ahead of Wednesday’s $1.5 billion drawing was worth $100,000 — she decided to give it to Walter – her husband of 35 years.
“She just about had a heart attack,” the couple’s daughter Keondra said.
Hines used family birthdays to choose her numbers. She bought the winning ticket at the 7-Eleven at 4718 Jefferson Davis Highway in Richmond.
“The ticket matched four of the first five numbers plus the Powerball number in the historic January 13 drawing,” a Virginia Lottery spokesperson said. “Normally, that would win $50,000, but she spent an extra dollar for Power Play when she bought the ticket, increasing the prize to $100,000.”
