RICHMOND, Va. -- Registration for this year's Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10K is open and over 16,000 people have signed up so far. If you haven't signed up yet, time is running out before the price goes up when this block of registration closes. Thousands of runners have an extra special reason for running this year. Runners taking part in the Massey Movement are made up of doctors, cancer survivors, and their friends and neighbors.
For each mile they run or walk, they raise money for VCU’s Massey Cancer Center and cancer research.

Jennifer Mott, a cancer survivor, and Chair of the Massey Movement said running and walking is crucial for people battling cancer.
“Think about people with cancer. They get up in the morning and know they have to get out the door, they know they should get out the door, but it`s really the hardest part doing it,” she said. “Just walking out the door and putting one foot in front of the other. It`s critical, not just for the physical and health aspects, but mentally, it`s just critical.”
Mott has been running in the 10k since 2008, when she was diagnosed with cancer a second time.
This year's Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10K is Saturday, April 9. You can register here.
