HENRICO, Va. – There was an increased police presence at Henrico High School Friday, in response to a fight that locked down the school on Thursday.

A concerned mother, who declined to show her face, said she is keeping her son home until “something is resolved because it's not a joke."

"I was told that John Marshall High School had a half day and that a couple of kids from John Marshall came into the campus, blended in the hallways and found the person they wanted to fight,” she said.

The Henrico mother said the kids approached the student and attacked him from behind.

She said the student wasn't seriously hurt, but that the John Marshall students managed to get away.

Henrico School officials did confirm there was an altercation involving a small group of students.

School spokesman Andy Jenks said they became aware Thursday night of social media chatter which involved inappropriate comments related to the safety of the school, but he didn’t go into details.

School leaders met with Henrico Police Thursday night to put a plan in place that would maintain a safe and secure environment today. As a result, there were additional police officers present at the school. We’re pleased to report that Henrico High School has had a positive and productive day of learning.

Still, this concerned parent worries about the next time it happens.

"I don't think kids from a whole other school should've ever been able to make it in the hallways and blend in,” she said.
