NORFOLK, Va. — CNN anchor Anderson Cooper is buying 18 vests that will protect dogs in the Norfolk Police K-9 unit, the Virginian-Pilot reported. The donation came after a Norfolk K-9 named Kriger was shot and killed by a man after an hours-long standoff with police.
“We are humbled to announce that Anderson Cooper has donated his speaking fee for his upcoming Norfolk Forum speech to Spike’s K9 Fund for the K9 Krijger Ballistic Vest Campaign,” Retired SEAL Jimmy Hatch, who started Spike’s K9 Fund to help police and military dogs, posted online. “His donation was quite generous. All of the Norfolk K9’s will be outfitted and we will start outfitting K9’s from other cities in Hampton Roads with the remainder.”
While the precise amount of the donation was not disclosed, the vests cost about $2,200 the Virginia-Pilot reported.
