STAFFORD, Va. — Debbie Taylor rarely plays the lottery. In fact, she said she has played less than 10 times her entire life. So perhaps it was a bit of beginner’s luck that she was able to match the first four numbers plus the Powerball number in Wednesday’s $1.5 billion Powerball drawing.

Her winning ticket would have normally been worth $50,000, but since she spent an extra dollar for Power Play – the ticket was a $100,000 winner.

“The numbers started to match, and I began to breathe hard,” she said as she claimed her prize Thursday.

Taylor said she came up with her numbers herself and did not rely on the computer’s random picks.

“She said she has no immediate plans for her winnings, except to pay bills and maybe go out for a nice dinner,” a Virginia Lottery spokesman said.

Taylor bought the winning ticket at Wawa, 15 Eustace Road in Stafford.
