Chesterfield clerk killed in convenience store shooting

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va -- A clerk has died after police found him shot in a convenience store Monday night. Harshad Patel, 55, died of a gunshot wound, according to Chesterfield Police.

Investigators were called to The Marketplace convenience store at 6811 Walmsley Boulevard at around 10:30 Monday night. When they arrived, they found Patel unconscious.

Patel was rushed to the hospital, where he died of his injuries.

According to communication over the scanner between first responders, a customer called 911 after she walked into the store and found Patel lying on the ground, groaning.

Police have not yet discussed a possible suspect or motive in this fatal shooting.
