PETERSBURG, Va. — The Petersburg Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of K-9, Tex, after he passed away Sunday morning.

Tex was an Explosive Detection K-9 and had been with the Sheriff’s Office since 2009. His death was attributed to causes in which German Shepherds often succumb to without warning.

The dog’s trainer and partner Corporal Myron Green has been with Tex since the beginning. Tex graduated from the Virginia State Police K-9 training academy in 2010 and continued to undergo training on a regular basis since that time.

“Tex was a great asset to the community and to law enforcement in and around the city of Petersburg,” Sheriff Vanessa Crawford said.

She said Tex provided service to the Petersburg community and the entire state, while serving our brothers and sisters in blue.

“Losing Tex was not only a personal loss for Deputy Green and the Sheriff’s Office, it also takes away another crime-fighter from this community,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

A memorial service will be held for Tex on Wednesday, January 20, at 2:00 p.m. at the Petersburg Sheriff’s Office.
