RICHMOND, Va. – There will be an open forum to discuss an urban plaza at Adams and Broad Street, where a public art project to honor Maggie L. Walker has been proposed.

The proposal, sponsored by Mayor Dwight Jones, suggests closing off the section of Brook Road between Adams and Broad Streets.

An urban art plaza would be built along the stretch.

A statue of entrepreneur Maggie L . Walker, who lived in Jackson Ward, would find its home in the plaza.

A two-hour meeting is planned for Tuesday, Jan. 12, starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Main Branch of the Richmond Public Library.

The City of Richmond’s Public Art Commission, Public Artist Toby Mendez and the design team will be there to explore ideas for the plaza.

“This will be an excellent opportunity for community members to give input for their vision for the plaza that will be the home of a public art project to honor Maggie L. Walker,” organizers said online.

Organizers said the venue was switched to the library at 101 E Franklin Street, due to large interest from the public.
