RICHMOND, Va. – The countdown is on, and now New Year’s Eve is just one day away.

Though last year’s popular event made history as the first New Year’s Eve celebration on Brown’s Island and around 10,000 attended, (Police estimated 8,000 and organizers said 14,000) it was chilly outside.

That’s why organizers Jimmy Budd and Anthony Harris have decided to put four walls around the event, as Richmond raises the roof and prepares for the big ball drop to usher in 2016 (the year of the Fire Monkey).

The capacity for the event is 6,000, and organizers said tickets have been selling fast.

The production will be the same format as last year; a giant open space with music and performance. You get a 50-foot light tower for a dazzling drop.

“The countdown will stem from the LED Cylinder Light Tower that’s being linked from the middle of the basketball court up to the LED Panels hanging from the ceiling that you see during the basketball games,” said organizer Jimmy Budd.

Trap duo Gents & Jawns, who are on the Los Angeles-based record label Mad Decent –spearheaded by Diplo – will headline. Mass FX,  Doddie Braza and Hoody will also perform.

There will be a designated smoking area outside of the building, for smokers. For drinkers, there will be beer, wine and liquor at the event. And for eaters, there will be food available for purchase from Ovations.

The celebration lasts from 7 p.m. – 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31 into Jan. 1.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $30 at the door. Advance ticket sales stop online at 7 p.m. Dec. 31, and then it turns to $30 at the door.  The event is 21 and over only. You can purchase tickets at http://www.rvanye.co/.

VIP tickets are still available, for $50. The ticket includes priority/express bar lines, a complimentary champagne toast, free coat check and complimentary finger foods.

When the party is over, get a free sober ride home through Napoleon Taxi, thanks to Allen & Allen. If you are in the metro Richmond area and feel unsafe driving on New Year’s Eve, simply call Napoleon Taxi at 804-354-8294 or 354-TAXI.

Allen & Allen will pick up the tab for the free cab rides between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. and the ride is only for people going home.

There is one caveat, though, you must ask for the Sober Ride Home to be eligible for the free fare.

To make this easy, here are the steps:

  1. Call Napoleon Taxi at 354-TAXI
  2. Ask for the Sober Ride Home to be eligible for the free fare
