PETERSBURG, Va. -- A planned 10-story hotel will soon act as a "Gateway to Petersburg," both city officials and developers touted Tuesday. Developer C. A. Harrison Companies has plans to turn the old Ramada Inn of East Washington Street, near Interstate 95, into a new 125-room hotel.

"The new hotel rooms, suites and executive suite will meet current industry standards with a full complement of amenities including meeting rooms, conference rooms, bar, indoor pool and outdoor courtyard," a statement from the City of Petersburg revealed. "The development encompasses several of the surrounding parcels, which will be developed into a mixed–use complex with 26,700 square feet of retail and office spaces and up to 100 market-rate residential apartment units."

Developers plan to demolish the hotel's top two floors and the upper level of the existing parking structure.
