Zatarain’s Red Beans and Rice recalled

CARLISLE, Penn. – Local grocery store chain Martin’s is pulling some packages of Zatarain’s Red Beans and Rice Original because the product may actually contain Creamy Parmesan Rice Mix.

That mix contains dairy ingredients that are not labeled on the Red Beans and Rice Original package, so McCormick & Company, Inc. issued the voluntarily recall for the following product:

PACKAGE UPC NUMBER: 7142909849

AFFECTED DATE CODE: BEST BY JUL 31 16Z

SHIPPING DATES: August 7, 2015 through September 29, 2015

STATES SHIPPED TO: FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, LA, MA, ME, MI, MN, MS, NC, NY, OH, PA, SC, TN, VA, and WI

Officials said the product is safe for folks who do not have dairy allergies. However, for people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to dairy may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they eat the product.

As a result, customers who have purchased the product should throw away any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to the grocery store where the purchased the product for a refun.
