CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Her love for both people and animals made Julie's Month of Giving surprise an easy choice. She decided to help a Chesterfield grandfather adopt the perfect rescue dog from Southside SPCA. All month long, the CBS 6 news team will be in the community, helping people through random acts of kindness. We hope those who are helped will be inspired to pay it forward. If you've been inspired to pay it forward, click here to share your story.

"I met a sweet grandfather named Preston Winn at the Southside SPCA adoption stand at the PetSmart in Chesterfield," Julie said. "We paid his adoption fee for his new dog - a beagle named Petunia, who's about 5-years-old."

Winn told Julie he always had dogs and he and his wife had been looking for a rescue for "a good while," following the death of their dogs.

"He said Petunia came right to him when he walked up to her crate, and she looked him right in the eye and started wagging. He said he fell in love with her immediately," Julie recalled. "One of his step-daughters lives here in town, and he got a little emotional when he said his granddaughters were going to love this dog."

Winn told Julie he appreciated her act of kindness and said he would definitely "pass it on." Representatives from Southside SPCA were also very grateful, Julie said.

"As a no-kill shelter, they are constantly finding homes for dogs like Petunia. It's a wonderful group. We got our last rescue dog from there, which is one of the reasons I chose that organization," Julie said. "To give to the rescue group, to give an animal a forever home and to help Mr. Winn bring home a new member of the family. Triple giving!"
