RICHMOND, Va. — Rakei D. Stokes, 25, was arrested Sunday and charged with several crimes in relation to a December 5 shooting at an Emporia nightclub that claimed the life of George Cain III and injured Emporia Police Officer William King. Stokes, who lives in the 200 Block of West End Boulevard in Emporia, was arrested by the United States Marshal’s Service. He was charged with:
- Attempted Murder of Officer William King
- Conspiracy to Commit Capital Murder of Officer William King
- Unlawfully shooting Officer William King
- Possession of Firearm after being a convicted Felon.
Stokes was booked at Southside Regional Jail without bond.
The night of the shooting, police arrested 26-year-old Christopher Rayshawn Powell, and charged him with Cain’s murder. Last week, police arrested Calvin Evans. Evans , 24, was charged with Conspiracy to Commit Capital Murder of Officer William King.
Emporia Police Chief Ricky Pinksaw said the shooting happened after 1:50 a.m. when Powell and Cain argued at the Smoove Operators night club on North Main Street. Pinksaw said that is when Powell pulled out a gun and shot Cain in the torso. Cain was rushed to Southern Virginia Regional Hospital where he later died.
Pinksaw said Officer King was in the process of arresting Powell when he was shot in the leg. He was also rushed to Southern Virginia Regional Hospital before being med-flighted to VCU Medical Center.
