HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- All month long, members of the CBS 6 news team will be in the community, helping people through random acts of kindness.

CBS 6 Meteorologist Mike Stone surprised David Nelms at the Henrico Humane Society with a $100 donation to help offset the cost of medications for adoptees.

What some folks may not realize is that the humane society will pay for medications for some animals that are in desperate need of a home. This is especially true for older dogs who may require medications.

“If it’s an elderly dog, we will put it as a sponsorship dog," Nelms said. "And then we will take care of the medical expenses for that dog... for the life of the dog.”

Stone met up with the group during one of their adoption events, which take place most Saturdays outside the Petco on West Broad Street in Short Pump.
