RICHMOND, Va. -- When David answered a knock at his front door recently, he probably did not expect CBS 6 anchor Bill Fitzgerald to be waiting on his front porch. He certainly could not have anticipated the message Bill was there to deliver. All month long, the CBS 6 news team will be in the community, helping people through random acts of kindness. We hope those who are helped will then be inspired to pay it forward. If you've been inspired to pay it forward, click here to share your story.

"Are you David?" Bill asked to break the ice. "It's nice to meet you."

After explaining the pay-it-forward goal of the CBS 6 Month of Giving, Bill told David why he was there.

"Your friend Cynthia said, 'maybe David would be someone you'd want to talk to.' We would like to pay your mortgage or rent for a month," Bill revealed to the shocked father.

David, who has lived in the home since 2003, revealed to Bill that there was a very real possibility he was about to lose his house.

"This [money] gives my kids a Christmas. It gives me a place to live for another 30 days," David said. "Your generosity is more than I could ever expect from anyone. Thank you."

WTVR CBS 6 has partnered with Union Bank & Trust for the Month of Giving.
