RICHMOND, Va. – A Richmond man has been arrested in connection with a robbery that occurred early morning in Chimborazo neighborhood.

The Richmond Police Department said that they were able to identify the suspect with help from the public.

Kenneth L. Artis, 49, of the 3100 block of M Street, was arrested Wednesday and charged with two felonies; robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

“We would like to thank the community that came forward and gave us a clearer picture of what happened, and ultimately helped us solve this case,” said First Precinct Lt. Dan Minton following a public appeal Richmond Police made for surveillance photos and video that could help clarify the incident.

Around 1 a.m. on Nov. 25, a female driver was stopped in the Chimborazo neighborhood when the suspect approached her vehicle and got into the passenger seat, according to police. The woman drove a few blocks away to Chimborazo Park, where the suspect stole cash, a mobile phone and credit cards before fleeing on foot through the park towards the dog park area.

Investigation revealed that there was a connection between the suspect and victim. Detectives believe this was an isolated incident.

There were no injuries.
