intersection of Forest Hill Avenue and Hathaway Road for a report of a woman who had been struck by a vehicle. at approximately 7:40 a.m., Sunday, November 22, police said.

Nancy Ferris, 73, of Richmond, was transported to a local hospital where she died of her injuries later that afternoon. Investigators determined Ferris was

walking in the crosswalk at the entrance to the Granite Hill shopping center when she was struck by a vehicle driven by Montrel Ross, 26. Ross was turning into the shopping center when his vehicle struck Ferris. Ross has been charged with reckless driving. Other charges are expected as investigators consult with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.

“She was a great lady who died a tragic, but preventable death,” a relative said. “Her birthday was yesterday [November 23]. She had a number of grandchildren and was expecting a great grandchild.”
