RICHMOND, Va. -- A Chesterfield man was charged with Conspiracy to Commit Murder in connection to afatal May 7 shooting on Midlothian Turnpike in South Richmond. Monquail Whiters, 23, of Meadow Farm Drive in Chesterfield, was arrested without incident, a Richmond Police spokesman said.
Whiters was charged in the shooting death of Sylvester Nichols, 24, of Glenway Drive.
At approximately 3 p.m. Thursday, May 7, officers were called to the 6500 block of Midlothian Turnpike for the report of a shooting. In a parking lot of the Family Dollar store they found Nichols suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Shortly after the shooting, the RPD released surveillance photos of a person of interest in the case, but it was a tip that led detectives to Whiters.
