CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. – A local company has made things a little easier for the family of Virginia Rose, a Chesterfield four-year-old battling a rare cancer.
Doctors allowed Virginia Rose to go home-- but said that with her weakened immune system -- she would have to be in an airtight room.
The Vandermark family looked into changing the windows in her room, but said it would have been very costly.
When Window World heard about the family’s dilemma, the company decided to lend a hand and changed all the windows in the home for free on Saturday.
“The smile on her face when we got to the airport and she knew she was home finally she had been away from home for seven months,” said Richard Vandermark, Virginia Rose's grandfather. “She hadn't been here since she first got diagnosed with her cancer treatments, so when she got home it was such a relief and you can see the uptick in her spirit and her energy actually for coming home.”
Doctors said they have not been successful treating Virginia Rose’s condition. As a result, she will continue under their care at home.
Neighbors are also decorating their homes for Christmas early so that Virginia Rose can enjoy the decorations.
