RICHMOND, Va. — “The Thinker” has arrived in Richmond. “Rodin: Evolution of a Genius,” the newest high-profile exhibit at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, opens Nov. 21.

The exhibit brings to Richmond more than 200 objects shaped by 19th century master sculptor Auguste Rodin, including examples of the Frenchman’s best-known work such as “The Thinker” and “The Kiss.”

Appreciated both by scholars and amateurs, Rodin was an easy choice for the VMFA, Director Alex Nyerges said.

“All you have to do is say, ‘The Thinker’ and ‘The Kiss.’ Everyone knows those sculptures,” Nyerges said.

Following other successful, big-name exhibits in recent years, Rodin is expected to be successful run for the museum. Nyerges said he is anticipating more than 5,000 new members and more than $1 million in gift shop sales over the course of the exhibit, which goes through March 13.
