RICHMOND, Va. -- The driver of a semi truck that snarled traffic along I-95 south in Richmond has been charged with reckless driving.
All southbound lanes have reopened following a the wreck near mile marker 72 (south of Maury St.) in South Richmond, a VDOT spokesperson advised. The backup heading southbound is eight miles, the backup heading northbound is clear, she added.
State police said a 2001 Mack tractor-trailer loaded with boxed freight ran off the interstate and hit the left barrier wall before overturning and blocking all southbound travel lanes.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, 34-year-old Orlando S. Baxter of Richmond was transported to VCU Medical Center hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Baxter was charged with Reckless Driving after state police said fatigue was likely a factor in the crash.
