CONCORD, NH  — Have you ever received a hand-written letter in the mail?

It can be exciting – a simple picture or a few words can make your day, especially if you’re thousands of miles away from family, friends, and the comfort of your home.

That giddy feeling is what Concord’s Emilee Mills wants military members to feel.

Emilee with the help of her sister have started a project collecting “Thank You” notes from across the Granite State from strangers to send to military members with the help of her sister, Brooke, reports NH1.

“It’s really amazing because you get to send all these letters to the troops overseas,” Emilee said.

“I just want it to bring a smile to their face and for them to know their country loves them and that they return safe,” Brooke said.

Emilee found the ‘Million Thanks’ organization after her grandfather who served in the Vietnam war recently passed away. This is her way of honoring him.

By Sunday she’d collected more than 1,000 Thank You notes – this batch going to soldiers in Kuwait.

“It feels great,” said Emilee. “I love it. It’s a big achievement.”

Emilee wants to collect at least 10,000 by the time she graduated high school in 2020.

During Veterans Day week, Southwest airlines recognized her for her efforts.

“My friends actually screenshot it,” said Brooke of the Southwest tweets recognizing Emilee. “[They] were telling me how many retweets and likes she got… She’s getting too famous now.”

With the recent attacks in Paris, Emilee says the Thank You notes may be small but are relevant.

“You realize what’s going on in the world,” said Emilee. “You really appreciate what they’re doing.”

Emilee reaches out to classrooms, businesses and has even stood at the airport with supplies for people to send their thanks.

If you would like to be a part of her next batch of notes to send, bring your own letter unaddressed to a Crossroads Chiropractic office.
