RICHMOND, Va. -- A Richmond middle school is in the running for a state-of-the-art $100,000 STEM lab makeover as part of Northrop Grumman Foundation’s Fab School Labs contest.
Lucille Brown Middle School is one of 20 middle schools in the country selected to compete in the competition, five schools will be selected for the grant.
Nearly 200 schools participated in the contest, submitting videos, photos and sharing their school’s vision for a state-of-the-art science lab. All submissions were reviewed by a team comprised of Flinn Scientific and an independent consultant.
As part of the final selection process the public is invited to cast their vote for the most deserving school through a Facebook campaign beginning November 16.
To vote go to https://www.facebook.com/FabSchoolLabs/ and click on the "Voting" tab at the top of their Facebook page. Voting for Lucille Brown Middle School will take place only on Thursday, November 19.
To garner greater support and participation in the Facebook contest, Chippenham and Johnson-Willis hospitals ware providing voting stations in their respective lobby areas for staff, patients and guests.
Lucille Brown Middle School was selected as a top 20 semifinalist based on a scoring system that included existing classroom/lab resources, level of need, students impacted, feasibility of upgrades and proposed plans and meeting the contest eligibility requirements and entry criteria.
At the completion of the contest on November 20, the Fab School Labs team will conduct the final selection process and select the top five winning schools. The selected schools will work with a design and engineering company to build a lab with all of the tools, resources and furnishings needed.
