Firefighters rescue 2 people trapped when fire breaks out at Henrico apartment

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — Firefighters rescued two people from their burning apartment on Henrico’s North Side Saturday night.

Crews were dispatched to the 5800 block of Hermitage Road for a report of an apartment fire around 10:30 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from one apartment where two residents were trapped.

“Crews immediately began rescue efforts and successfully rescued two trapped occupants,” Lt. J.R. Power said in a news release. “All the residents of the apartment were safely rescued without injury.”

Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze before the flames spread to nearby units. The blaze was marked under control in about 30 minutes.

No firefighters were injured.

Crews are working with the Henrico Fire Marshal’s Office to determine what sparked the blaze.

Officials urged folks to check their smoke detectors regularly to make sure they are working. Additionally, officials said basis to ensure they will work properly and change the batteries twice annually.
