Spotsylvania County High teen arrested for assault after locker room hazing incident

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. -- A Spotsylvania County High teen has been arrested after hazing incident inside the boys’ football locker room on October 23, prior to an away game.

The juvenile suspect, 15, was taken into custody and charged with Attempted Sodomy with an Inanimate Object, a felony; and Assault by Mob, a misdemeanor.

Police said at approximately 9:30am, Friday morning the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of the assault that occurred in the boys’ locker room.

Detectives and the School Resource Officer investigated the allegation with the cooperation and assistance of the Spotsylvania County School Administration and staff.

They determined, two juvenile male student athletes, ages 14 and 15 had been hazed and assaulted by older student athletes of the football team. Police said the victims, who were reluctant to admit being assaulted, did eventually confirm the attacks.

Detectives further discovered additional evidence and witness information, which confirmed the victims’ account of the incident. Detectives were able to identify one of the juvenile suspects, involved in the hazing and assault of at least one of the victims.

Spotsylvania Sheriff Roger L. Harris released at statement about the incident:

“This incident, causing the victimization of our young people is a very serious matter.  Schools should be a safe haven for our kids and we will continue to thoroughly investigate this matter.”

Detectives and school officials are continuing to investigate this incident and several additional juveniles are being sought for interview.

The Juvenile suspect was transported to the Rappahannock Juvenile Detention Facility.
