RICHMOND, Va. – An arrest has been made in a murder that occurred over the summer.

Richmond Police detectives arrested Keton L. Smith for the murder of a Richmond man on Dunn Avenue on August 18, 2015.

Smith, 21, of the 600 block of Northside Avenue, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force without incident last Friday, Nov. 6,  at his home.

He has been charged with Conspiracy to Commit Murder.

The victim, Matthias J. Washington, 34, of Richmond, was shot while he sat in a vehicle near Brookland Park Boulevard.

He drove away, but his vehicle collided with several parked cars and stopped in the roadway. Police said the victim was shot multiple times, and neighbors in the area reported hearing five to six gunshots.

“Now that Smith has been arrested, we’re hoping others will come forward to tell us what they know about this murder, said Major Crimes Sergeant Richard G. Edwards. “We have built a good case, but we’d like more information from people who may have been reluctant to speak until now.”

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Major Crimes Detective Jon Bridges at (804) 646-4494 or Crime Stoppers at 780-1000. Citizens can also text Crime Stoppers at 274637, using the key word “ITip” followed by your tip. Both Crime Stoppers methods are anonymous.
