High school students suffer life-threatening burns in chemistry lab explosion

FAIRFAX, Va. — Five students and one teacher were hurt during an incident inside a chemistry lab at Wilbert Tucker Woodson High School in Fairfax, WUSA reported. Two students who suffered life-threatening injuries were flown to  Washington Burn Center Friday morning. The others students were taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital for treatment. The teacher was treated at the high school.

The father of a student told WUSA reporter Nikki Burdine that the chemistry teacher was doing a demonstration on how fire changes color, when the chemical exploded.

Students were evacuated to the school’s football field as a precaution. This is a developing story. Anyone with additional information can submit a news tip here.
