STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — A 24-year-old man is facing a slew of charges after an alleged road rage incident ended with a police chase Friday afternoon in Stafford County.

Stafford County Sheriff’s Office officials said Brian Richardson, of Woodbridge, flashed a gun at another driver on I-95 south near mile marker 140. That driver called 911.

Deputies found Richardson and assumed he was going to pull over, but he then sped off and pointed the gun at himself.

“Initially Richardson appeared to be pulling over to the right shoulder but then sped off southbound on I-95. Stafford deputies joined by the Virginia State Police continued the pursuit,” Stafford County Sheriff’s Office officials said in a news release. “As the pursuit continued on I-95 it was clear that there was a female passenger in the vehicle, who at times, appeared to be struggling with Richardson. Richardson, while driving erratically, was also holding a gun to his head. The pursuit continued off of I-95 south to Route 3 west in Spotsylvania County, then onto Fall Hill Avenue and then onto River Road west bound.”

That’s where Richardson crashed and hit a tree in the 5000 block of River Road. He then kept driving until he slammed into another tree before the vehicle came to a stop.

Richardson, who is facing several charges including possession of marijuana, was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

“The gun that Richardson was brandishing was a pellet gun,” officials said. “However, a 45 hand gun was also located in the vehicle, stolen out of Prince William County. Brian Richardson was also in possession of marijuana.”

The female passenger was also taken to the hospital as a precaution, but was not facing any charges.

Deputies said their investigation is in the “early stages.”
