HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- A BB gun was confiscated from a student at Tucker High School in western Henrico Thursday, according to a letter sent to parents.

"Our administrative team was notified of a potential weapon on school property. We responded immediately, and with the assistance of Henrico Police, we were able to identify a student and confiscate a weapon," principal Bob Lowerre said. "[The weapon] turned out to be a BB gun. Our students are safe, and there was no disruption to the instructional day."

Lowerre said he could not "elaborate on consequences," but assured parents school administrators would address the matter very seriously.

Lt. Chris Eley with Henrico County Police said the 17-year-old male student was "referred to intake for a violation of Virginia State Code § 18.2-282, brandishing a firearm, on a Juvenile Violation Report" and released to a guardian.
