RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond Animal Care and Control picked up a pig on the loose in the backyard of a home in Southside Richmond, and they are trying to track down his owner.

Robin Young with RACC said a homeowner off of Bainbridge Street called them Tuesday to report the foreign pig in their yard.

“They were a little hysterical that there was a pig in their backyard,” Young said.

RACC picked the pig up and named him Peter Porker.

Young said Peter Porker is in good health, and seems to love blueberry bagels.

They then put a post on Facebook about him in hopes of finding his owner.

“We don’t know if he belongs to a city resident.  He could belong to a county resident,” Young said.

Young said somebody called Wednesday and said it is their pig, but so far nobody has claimed him.

Young said outside of Maymont, pigs are not allowed in the City of Richmond, so if it turns out the owner keeps Peter Porker in Richmond, they will have to find a new home for the pig outside the city limits within 24 hours of picking him up.

“They’ll have to decide, do they want to re-home it with someone that lives in the county, re-home it with a rescue, that’s up to them,” Young said.

Young said this is the second time this year RACC picked up a pig in Richmond.
