UPDATE: Ramps reopen after multi-car crash near Richmond airport

UPDATE: All lanes have reopened.

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — An accident closed travel lanes and interstate ramps on South Airport Drive and Interstate 64, near Richmond International Airport,  in Sandston. Emergency vehicle responded to the crash scene near interstate 64 ramp for exit 197. The ramps reopened at about 9 a.m.

Police released the following details about the crash:

At 7:45, officers responded to the report of a multi-vehicle crash on S. Airport Drive at I-64.  The crash was located on southbound S. Airport Dr. just north of Audubon Dr. and involved 3 vehicles.  A vehicle was travelling southbound on S. Airport drive did not see that traffic had backed up due to morning rush hour.  That vehicle did not stop for the traffic and rear ended a vehicle stopped for traffic.  The force of the impact caused the second vehicle to strike the third.  The driver of the first vehicle sustained a laceration to his forehead, and was transported to VCU Medical center.  He was also issued a summons for reckless driving.  The female passenger of the second vehicle was also transported to VCU for a complaint of neck and back pain.
