HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — Bernard Wyatt of Henrico County is $1 million dollars richer, thanks to a trip to the store for some chicken.
Wyatt said the fried chicken at Horizon Food Store at 6141 Charles City Road, not lottery tickets, brought him to the store that day.
“They make some of the best fried chicken in Eastern Henrico County,” said Wyatt.
While Wyatt was getting the chicken, he decided to purchase a lottery ticket. The food was forgotten when he scratched his ticket and realized he won the $1 million top prize in the Virginia Lottery’s $1,000,000 Cash Blast game.
“It was a nice surprise,” Wyatt said.
The Henrico man said he has no immediate plans for his winnings, but there’s a possibility that the 2004 Ranger he currently drives might soon be retired.
He had the choice of taking the full $1 million prize over 25 years or a one-time cash option of $628,000 before taxes. He chose the cash option. The store also received a $10,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
Wyatt claimed the eighth and final top prize in $1,000,000 Cash Blast, which means the game is now closed. It’s the Virginia Lottery’s policy to close scratcher games when the final top prize is claimed.
