HENRICO COUNTY, Va. --  Police responded to a call for a shooting in the 4200 block of Fayette Avenue, just a few blocks from Richmond International Raceway, Tuesday afternoon.

Two people were shot when a vehicle drove past and opened fire, according to Henrico Police spokesman Lt. Chris Eley. Both victims have non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred near a bus stop, and police led children around the crime scene as they arrived home. Some kids were physically picked up by police and led around the scene.

"Today is a unique day being that it was the first day of school," Lt. Eley said. "For some kids this was their very first day of school.

"So to come home and see a scene like this can be a little daunting considering their entire life they've been home all day, they leave and come back to something like this," he added.

Police collected evidence from a broad section of Fayette Avenue that was taped off. A K-9 unit was brought on scene to assist in the investigation.

The suspect is at large, and police said they are looking for a new, silver four-door Ford sedan.
