CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. – Another school year is soon to start.
Yurell Lewis is getting ready for 7th grade, at Carver Middle School in Chesterfield County.
"All the school shopping, clothes, supplies," said Lewis.
She rides the bus everyday and has some concerns with the overcrowding school buses.
"There's too many kids, just way too many kids," she said.
Last year CBS 6 showed photos of packed school buses where students appear to be standing and sitting in the aisle.
We asked Chesterfield County Public Schools what's being done to try to minimize overcrowding this upcoming school year.
"We know when it comes to our buses that there may be more students than we would like," said Spokesman Shawn Smith, "We've to make adjustments as quickly as possible, the reality is as a school division we don't know until the first day of school just how many students are going to ride the buses."
Smith said they do try to look closely at each year to see the number of bus routes.
"Some days it's overcrowded, some days it's not," said student Marvin Marsh.
Marsh also rides the bus but feels like the school system does a good job handling the issue.
Smith said they recently had a job fair to look for even more drivers.
"This year we saw an increased presence in people to work in Chesterfield schools not just from our bus driver perspective, but also from our teachers as well," said Smith.
