RICHMOND, Va. -- Police are working a homicide investigation after a body was discovered in the 1700 block of Dakota Avenue not far from Richmond's Mt. Calvary Cemetery Saturday morning.
CBS 6 spoke to the man who said he found the body after walking his dog Saturday morning.
"My dog happened to go over there, and I saw a guy laying on the ground," said Larry, who lives nearby.
He told reporter Chelsea Rarrick he heard gunshots the night before and had thought it was coming from the back of the house.
Richmond police were on scene investigating just before 10 a.m Saturday.
The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene, Durham said.
Neighbors who live in the area said heavy police presence in the area is highly unusual.
"It makes me sad because this is a good neighborhood, we don't want our neighborhood to go down," said one woman who lives in the area.
Right now, Chief Alfred Durham said they do not have any leads as to who is responsible for the death of the man.
Anyone with information that could help investigators should call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
