A disturbance in the eastern Atlantic we were monitoring yesterday developed into Tropical Depression Four this morning and then quickly strengthened to Tropical Storm Danny this afternoon.
Tropical storm Danny is circled in red below.
The track of Danny will be generally westward over the next week or so as it moves along the southern periphery of central Atlantic high pressure. Further strengthening is likely, and the storm has a good chance of becoming the first hurricane of the season in the Atlantic Basin.
The intensity forecasts from various tropical models show Danny becoming a category 1 hurricane on Thursday, with some guidance taking it to a category 2 hurricane this weekend.
The official National Hurricane Center (NHC) forecast takes Danny close to the Lesser Antilles early next week as a category 2 hurricane.
Any impact to the US is still about two weeks away, so we have plenty of time to watch and prepare. We’ll track it for you and bring you the latest. For frequent updates, follow me on Twitter and like my Facebook page. -Zach
